Why do I need a forward/reverse input from the GNSS for ADR?

Hi, I am working in a project with L26-DR and the datasheet (L26-DR_Application_Note page 20) says that I can get the speed value from the CAN bus via the OBD interface but in this mode the forward/reverse signal is not available, datasheet says I need to use an analog odometer to use the forward/reverse signal, so, why is this signal only available with an analog odometer?, is there any disadvantage in using CAN to get the speed vs analog odometer?

Sorry for the late reply.
L26DR CAN function is limited to ISO15765 standard protocol. And we don’t promote getting speed by the CAN bus as the CAN bus cannot restore back to normal automatically when bus-off. Except that, another disadvantage is that the reverse signal are not supported.
