RM520N-GL how to enable COM Port Windows?

I have RM520N-GL in my lenovo laptop. How to enable COM port in device manager? I want to run AT command

Please send me the driver/firmware to enable com port - alex.tanfg@gmail.com

Dear @alextan333
Actually, I am not sure if enable this in BIOS menu, but I will share the driver to you, you can try.

Hello to everyone,

I have the same question. On my new laptop, under Windows 11, with an RM520N-GL card, the only COM ports I can see are COM3 and COM4, and none of them answer to AT commands.

The connection to 5G mobile network works very well, but I am not sure about GNSS location, as all the softwares I tried do not find a GNSS sensor (which appears however in the Device Management).

I don’t see at all what I am missing.

Thank you for your help.
Fred

Dear @s-fredo
For laptop, it need laptop manufacture to provide the corresponding driver.

Hello,
Thanks for your answer.
My laptop is a Thinkpad T16 Gen 3 (last generation). So, it should be up to Lenovo to provide the correct drivers ? There is no other way?
Eventually, are there any guys here owning a Thinkpad with this 5G card and who managed to get GNSS working ?
Thank you.
Fred

Maybe you need to go to the Lenovo Support site to get the relevant drivers.

The WWAN module that comes with the laptop is an OEM product, which may have removed the associated development capabilities.

It’s unlikely to work properly without a GNSS antenna.(No antenna sharing with 4G and 5G antennas)

In fact, the problem is not to get a GPS position, but to be able to send commands to the interface via a serial port (COM3, COM4,…). Which I can’t… When I try to send a command on COM3 or COM4, even a very simple one, I don’t get any answer.

Dear @s-fredo
It seems there is some problem with driver.

So, which driver should I use (on Windows 11 Pro) ?

Thank you.
Fred

Dear @s-fredo
As @qows mentioned before, you shoule contact with Lenovo Support to get the relevant drivers.

Hi Silvia,
You are right. And actually, I am browsing official Lenovo forums to find any solution. In fact, there are some other guys having the same problem (no COM port responding), but with other laptop models and Quectel cards.
So, I guess Lenovo developers likely use their toes to write their drivers…
If I find a solution, I will post it here.
Fred

Hi @s-fredo and @silvia,
are there any news about this, because this just limits the capabilty of the devices (for me EM-160R-GL Gen2).
Can we not just use original drivers from Quectel to get the COM-ports?
Regards
Holger

Hi Holger,

I contacted the support (Premium) of Lenovo, and they answered that there was no GNSS antenna in my laptop (a T16 Gen 3, not really a low-end), and so they would not release a driver giving access to COM ports.
I then answered them that GNSS support was in the specs when I bought this laptop (July 2024), feature which has disappeared now in the T16 specs.

I didn’t open yet my laptop, but I will. What I find crazy anout this story is that I had bought a T450s in 2015, which had GNSS antennas and it was working.
It is “funny” how the service and quality can be downgraded, sometimes… (but not the price).

If you find some Quectel drivers to test (I tested some, but without success yet), let us know. As I will let you know if I find a solution.

Fred

Dear Fred,

thanks for you reply. I use a P16v G2 that is equipped with an internal antenna. Also the EM-160R-GL Gen2 module works fine for LTE and GNSS, but only as Wireless Location Sensor with the availble driver from Lenovo. The problem is that most of the software still use the serial port instead of this Wireless Location Sensor device within Windows.

If I will find a solution, I will post it here.

Holger

do you have any solution for enabling port on windows 11?

Quectel RM520N-GL
RM520NGLAAR03A03M4G

Dear Silvia,
this topic turns loops and loops. This is the answer, that I’ve got from Lenovo Premium Support:

In fact, the ball is rather in the court of Quectel’s support, as they provide the hardware and also the drivers, which we validate for our systems and then publish.

I will now archive the case.

If you have any further questions regarding this issue, please contact Quectel Support.

So what is the solution to get serial ports for YOUR Quectel device on an Lenovo Laptop under Windows 11?

Regards,
Holger

Dear @warnkeh @nik135
Actually, on lenovo laptop, the driver is released by lenovo, they had mentioned. But quectel’s original driver is not fit with laptop, so it didn’t show serical ports.
And you can also check with lenovo whether they will dispaly the serial port on their device manager.

Dear @silvia , this modem under linux also not have serial port.

how i can change settings (carrier aggregation/bands and so on) on linux?

Dear @nik135
Is it RM520NGLAP? Install PC directly?
