RM520N-GL (AP) minimum kernel number linux

Hello All,

New here.
Have two machines with Debian 13 Trixie 6.11 kernel
Purchased an Quectel RM520N-GL (AP) modem. Placed in an m.2 to pcie 1x adapter .
The modem is not recognized in either of the two computers. Should this modem be ‘autorecognized’ in this kernel?
I did try compiling the V-1.3.3.7 driver as well but i get errors when trying to compile this
Not sure what I am missing. ,kernel headers, cmake, etc.
Had thought I done a lot of research on this modem,but obviously,dont have a clue what I should expect .

TIA

Make sure your adapter is not limited to USB and your PCIe slot has PCI lanes connected. Worth checking the slot with any PCI card you have, like a WiFi adapter.
Then check with lspci.

@jfrog g

Thank You for the reply.
What i have is a pretty old x1 pcie adapter to M.2 B-key .
This is the model that supports b-key and a-key for wifi. AKA dual module card This card is about 6 years old now>
I had no idea some of the RM520N-GL cards are pci ONLY. This is what my card is.
Back to my question,If my adapter is correct for the RM520N-GL should the kernel 6.11 be able enumerate this modem,without installing the Quectel Linux drivers.
When I try and do a make ,on V-1.3.3.7 driver,i get all sorts of init-descriptor errors,on kernel 6.11 Debian, BTW.
Neither of the two fairly new Dell computers I have are detecting this modem. Tried in multiple pcie slots on each PC. There is no monkey business about whitelisting wifi/modems etc,in bios,just for comnpleteness.

TIA

I’m pretty sure that is not what you need.

You don’t need to worry about kernel, drivers, etc. for now.

@jfrog

This is the adapter I have. It is pretty old for 4G generation modules.
When I ordered this modem,I also ordered an Waveshare USB- M.2 key-b adapter,not knowing some of these modems are pci,only ,which mine is. Hence I dug up this old adapter to see if it would work.

Am wondering if this modem,may be defective as 4 other 4g modem did work ok in the pictured adapter

Am going to oder this adapter,and see if it works.

Do you see these modems when you run lspci ?

@jfrog

I apologize. I failed to mention,i did run lspci ( and lsusb as well ) :slight_smile:
Nothing for Quectel is every displayed.
I would think this adapter should at least allow the module to be shown in lspci?
This is my first go around with RM520N-GL (LAP).
Many years ago,i did have a couple EC-25 ? Modems that worked fine.

TIA

We don’t know, hence the question to your example.
