I am having issues with the RM500U-EA model when using this in New Zeeland. The firmware I currently have is: RM500UEAAAR03A06M2G_01.001.01.001
The issue is that this firmware branch has standard 3GPP software layers and diagnostic frameworks stripped or locked down. Because of this, when the device is set to Auto (5G/4G) mode, it cannot negotiate the 4G/5G physical handshake required for New Zealand’s 5G NSA (Non-Standalone) architecture.
The module gets stuck in an endless SEARCH ⇄ LIMSRV (Limited Service) loop. It sees the local towers and camps briefly, but the connection drops before a protocol data unit (PDU) session can be established.
AT Command Lockout: Standard Quectel network diagnostic commands like AT+QENG=“servingcell” return +CME ERROR: 4 (Operation Not Supported) , confirming that engineering mode and standard band-mapping policies are actively restricted on this firmware version.
Because the 5G initialization routine crashes or loops indefinitely, the module’s radio stack fails to execute a graceful fallback to 4G LTE, leaving the device entirely offline unless forced manually to 4G-only. Some options to resolve this are as follows:
Could I please get a copy of the latest stable firmware that restores default 3GPP behaviors and removes the custom carrier restrictions?
Could you also please send through the flashing tool required for this?
