Looking for RM520N x1 PCIe adapter suggestions

Hi, I am not sure if I am posting in the correct forum, but I am looking for a pcie x1 adapter for the RM520N module. My understanding (someone correct me if this is inaccurate) is that I need an adapter that is compatible with “b key” ?

Also, there are so many options out there, but I am wondering if anyone had some experience with these adapters, and or could recommend a brand/product that is reliable ?

Dear @werty
Sorry about this, we don’t have this.
Hope other guys will help you.

Hi, maybe you can answer a technical question for me. I have read online that “b key” is either primarily SATA, OR can also support PCIe x2 (NVMe) interfaces. Can you confirm that the RM520N uses SATA interface, PCIe x2 (or both sata and PCIe?)

I was reading this other topic RM551E-GL in PCIe mode (as opposed to USB)
, and wonder if some of those PCIe adapters would also work for the RM520n?

My main goal is that I want to connect the RM520N directly to my pc motherboard (not via USB), but I’m not sure what type of adapter to get

My Techship adaptors work for M2 to PCIe, certainly in the BPi-R4 and I am pretty sure they would work in a PC…

Quectel_RM520N-GL_Hardware_Design_V1.0.pdf lists only two application side data interfaces: USB and PCIe.

4 Application Interfaces
The physical connections and signal levels of the module comply with the PCI Express M.2 specification.
This chapter mainly describes the definition and application of the following interfaces/pins of the module:
● (U)SIM interfaces
● USB interface
● PCIe interface
● Control and indication interfaces
● Cellular/WLAN COEX interface*
● Antenna tuner control interface
● Configuration pins

SATA is completely different and can not be used with modems.
Although it can help in a peculiar case when the machine’s only PCIe slot (M.2, mini PCIe etc) is occupied by disk. Moving storage to SATA will make PCIe available for the modem.

Modem has has the same M.2 key B connector and PCIe specification as RM551E-GL:

RM520N-GL is a standard M.2 Key-B WWAN module.

4.3. PCIe Interface
The module provides one integrated PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) interface.
PCI Express Base Specification Revision 4.0 compliant
● Data rate up to 16 Gbps

Thus any adapters connecting RM551 to PCIe should work with RM520.

Note that RM520N-GL’s power-up timings are different and it may require adjustments to external power which is not part of an adapter.

Types of slots with PCIe lines in your system dictate the requirement for adapter’s opposite connector.

A desktop PC with large case typically has one or more PCIe expansion slots. An expansion card adapter is likely the simplest to use with these.

More details about your system would enable a more accurate recommendation regarding suitable adapters.

Hi, thanks for the info.
On my motherboard I have one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot which is available to use.

I was very confused by the “b key” aspect of this hardware, because initially I did not think I needed to look for a SATA adapter, but almost every B-Key adapter that I found mentioned SATA :upside_down_face:
