Evaluating the LG580P (03) for agricultural guidance in New Zealand and trying to pin down SouthPAN support.
SouthPAN is the Australia/NZ SBAS (PRN 122) with three open services: OS-L1 (~3 m), OS-DFMC (~1 m), and OS-PVS, the PPP service (≤0.40 m H at 95%). The product page lists SouthPAN under SBAS but doesn’t break it down by service, and the V1.0 Preliminary datasheet doesn’t either.
Three questions:
-
Which of the three services does current firmware decode? PVS uses MT31/MT32 on the L5 channel and needs a PPP engine, so I don’t think generic SBAS support implies it, happy to be corrected.
-
Is there an MT0 test-mode override? SouthPAN broadcasts with the test flag set until certification in 2028, and DO-229 says discard SBAS data when MT0 is present. u-blox has
CFG-SBAS-USE_TESTMODEfor this. Without an equivalent, the LG580P will ignore SouthPAN entirely regardless of what else it supports. -
Is the SBAS PRN scan mask configurable? Need to pin it to PRN 122.
For reference, the Geoscience Australia compatible device list (27 Jun 2024) has 33 Quectel parts, all OS-L1 and all manufacturer-spec rather than verified. Neither LG290P nor LG580P is on it, presumably because both launched after that snapshot.
Cheers,
Josh
