LC29H(AA) in ntpsec

Hello,

I have a Waveshare GPS Hat with a Quectel LC29H(AA), jumper in position B, on a Raspberry Pi 5 .

What I would like to know is whether this device can be used as a time source in ntpsec (via gpsd), or chrony?

My problem seems to be that gpsd cannot retrieve NMEA data via available /dev/ttyAMA0.

Regards from Germany

Hi Mibere,

Sorry I’m not familiar with NTPsec or chrony. It seems that they are timing application. Here are some suggestions for GNSS timing.
(1) You need to confirm the timing accuracy requirement. Need microsecond level or nanosecond level? The accuracy of 1PPS on LC29H(AA) is 20ns@RMS.
(2) Generally, if GNSS module is used for timing application, it is set statically in a certern position, keep antenna in clear open sky as posible.
(3) After module get fixed, it outputs 1PPS signal from 1PPS pin. 1PPS signal is synchronized with GPS time from the satellites.
