Hi there. I have two L96 modules, and neither of them is able to get a GPS fix. No satellites at all. I use the internal antenna. I have seen several threads here about the same problem but without a solution. Could this be a firmware problem? Can I have the latest firmware? The current firmware is:
[2024-12-01 11:10:18.083 Uart Tx:0015 B] $PQVERNO,R3F
[2024-12-01 11:10:18.223 Uart Rx:0044 B] $PQVERNO,R,L96NR11A02S,2023/05/19,11:046C
I’m uploading a log file here.

Hi @jeff1974
From the log, we can see that your module did not find any satellites. Please confirm your test environment.
- Test in an open, interference-free environment to see if the module can be positioned.
- Check if the antenna is loose.
- Use an active antenna to test to see if the module can be positioned normally.
- I have been using L80s and L86s for almost ten years and those modules can get a fix from here. I don’t think this is an interference problem, because I’m powering the module from USB (using a 3.3V regulator), no MCU on this board, no switching power supply either.
- Nothing is wrong with the antenna. This is a brand new module I bought because the first sample didn’t work.
- I’ll try an external antenna, but it is a little bit complicated because no connector on this board.
It is working with external active antenna.
Something is wrong here. If I connect an active antenna, it works. If I connect any piece of metal to RFIN that not even looks like a GPS antenna, it works. If I connect together RFIN and RFOUT as I want to use its internal antenna, it doesn’t work.
Hi @jeff1974
From your test results, it seems that the problem is that there is a problem with the internal antenna circuit.
