Feasibility of eSIM integration with EC200UCNAA-N05-SGNSA and firmware support for eUICC operations

Hello Quectel Team,

I am currently evaluating the EC200UCNAA-N05-SGNSA module for a product design that requires eSIM (MFF2 eUICC) integration for LTE connectivity. I would like to confirm the feasibility of implementing eSIM with this module and understand the firmware and hardware support available.

I would appreciate clarification on the following points:

  1. eSIM Hardware Integration

    • Is it possible to integrate an MFF2 eSIM (eUICC) directly with the EC200UCNAA-N05-SGNSA using the standard SIM interface?
    • Are there any reference schematics or hardware design guidelines available for connecting an MFF2 eSIM to this module?
  2. Firmware Support for eSIM Features

    • Does the standard factory firmware support eSIM/eUICC features?

    • Are there AT commands available to retrieve:

      • ICCID
      • EID of the eSIM?
    • If supported, could you please confirm the AT commands used to read the EID?

  3. Profile Management

    • Does the module support local profile management, such as listing and switching profiles stored in the eSIM?

    • Are there AT commands available to:

      • list profiles
      • enable/disable profiles
      • switch the active profile?
  4. Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP)

    • Does the module support initiating Remote SIM Provisioning from an SM-DP+ server, for example through SMS trigger or LTE data connection?
    • Can the module handle the profile download and activation process internally and manage the RSP initiation?
  5. Firmware Requirements

    • If these eSIM capabilities are not included in the standard firmware, is custom firmware required to support commands for EID retrieval, profile management, or RSP?
  6. Module Recommendations

    • If the EC200UCNAA-N05-SGNSA is not recommended for full eSIM functionality, could you suggest Quectel 4G LTE modules that support eSIM more natively?

    • It would be helpful to know specific module part numbers that:

      • support LTE connectivity
      • work well with eSIM (MFF2 eUICC)
      • ideally include eSIM capability in factory firmware.
  7. eSIM Hardware and Platform Recommendations

    • Could you also suggest recommended eSIM (eUICC) hardware vendors that work well with Quectel LTE modules?
    • Additionally, are there any preferred eSIM management platforms or SM-DP+ providers that Quectel commonly works with or recommends for IoT deployments?

This information will help me determine the best modem solution for my design.

Thank you for your support.

Dear Customer,

1. eSIM hardware integration
Yes, using the standard SIM interface is feasible in principle. EC200U-series hardware docs show the module provides standard (U)SIM interfaces and Quectel reference design material is available for SIM connection. You can refer to the document for eSIM connection.

2. Firmware Support for eSIM Features
Yes, only the latest firmware supports for eSIM features in EC200U

3. ICCID / EID retrieval
ICCID: yes, via AT+QCCID.
EID: yes via AT+QESIM="eid" but only available for the latest firmware.

4. Profile management

  • Yes, you can list profiles via AT+QESIM=“list”
  • Yes, you also can enable or disable the profiles.
  • So far, no switch features supported yet.

5. RSP / SM-DP+
So far, you can only send notifications to SM-DP+.

6. Custom firmware requirement
This will need further discussion with higher management because it could impact other customer as well.

7. eSIM Hardware and Platform Recommendations
We are really sorry, usually we don’t recommend for the eSIM hardware and the management platform.

Thank you.

Thanks for the response, this surely helps me with considerations for the design. Will get back if I have any other queries.
