EN.CODE BOX ENC21EU — module identification and stock firmware request

Hello Quectel support team,

Could a moderator help identify whether the EN.CODE BOX ENC21EU 4G hotspot uses a Quectel module, and whether any official firmware or service documentation is available for it?

Details read directly from my device:

  • Model: EN.CODE BOX ENC21EU
  • Hardware revision: ENC21EU-MB-V2.0
  • Firmware: ENC21EU-V2.5
  • Web interface: 2_V14_1.8.8.6
  • Normal USB connection: MediaTek VID/PID 0E8D:2004 (RNDIS)
  • Startup interface: 0E8D:2000, reports MT65xx Preloader and sends READY
  • Fastboot interface: 0BB4:0C01; product ENC21EU; kernel lk
  • Fastboot reports secure=yes, unlocked=no and unlock_ability=0; partition fetch is unsupported

A reseller lists MT6739, but I have not confirmed the exact processor or the presence of any Quectel module. I am therefore asking for identification first, rather than assuming that a firmware package for another module is compatible.

If this product uses a Quectel module, could you please advise:

  1. How to identify the exact module and hardware variant without changing device settings or erasing data.
  2. Whether a stock firmware/service image matching this hardware revision is available, with a checksum and release notes.
  3. Whether there is an official procedure to back up the existing firmware and calibration data, and restore the device.
  4. Whether the web-update ZIP/APK packages update the full system or only the management application, and whether any supported VPN-client option exists.

If this device is outside Quectel’s product range, a pointer to the appropriate manufacturer or OEM support contact would be appreciated.

Only read-only queries and temporary boot-mode changes have been performed; no partitions have been flashed, erased or unlocked. Individual device/SIM identifiers have deliberately been omitted from this public post.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

This device is not a Quectel product, and I am not able to identify a Quectel module from the information provided.

The identifiers you listed point to a MediaTek SoC design rather than to a host board carrying a separate cellular module: the MT65xx preloader on 0E8D:2000, the RNDIS interface on 0E8D:2004, and fastboot on 0BB4:0C01 with lk as the kernel are the standard MediaTek boot chain. On the MT6739 that your reseller lists, the LTE modem is integrated into the SoC, so there may be no discrete module in the device at all.

Even where a Quectel module is designed into a third-party product, Quectel does not distribute firmware, service images or calibration data for that product. Those are held by the device manufacturer, and the RF calibration is specific to each unit and is not interchangeable.

For a stock firmware image, release notes, a backup and restore procedure, and the web-update package behaviour, the correct contact is the device manufacturer or the reseller who supplied the unit. I would also not recommend flashing a package built for different hardware, which your own caution already avoids.

Thank you.
