Hello,
I am trying to use an EC25-E modem on the EVK board. Connecting the board to a Windows PC and turing on the module (power on + holding the PWRkey button for a while) the only USB interface available is the “Qualcomm Quectel QDLoader 9008” : the module is in emergency download mode (but the boot pin is not pulled up to 1.8V…).
Trying to upgrading the modem FW with QFlash 7.3 I get the “Download firehose file…” message and then , after some time, the “FAIL, DL_Firehose, Time out!” message.
Trying to use the QFlash “Sahara only” option I succeed download the entire FW (it properly downloads all files in the upgrade list and then show the “PASS” message), however after rebooting, the device is again in emergency download mode (also putting BOOT pin to ground).
This behaviour began when I did some modem upgrade tests : we had an emergency regaring a customer and since that day we never used again this EC25 module.
Do you think that the module is damaged or is it possible to try to recover it?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards
Alex
Not sure.
Could you show the IMEI and the firmware you flashed?
Have you ever flashed with the wrong firmware?
Hi,
thanks for your support!
“Could you show the IMEI”
imei: 8667580433983366
“and the firmware you flashed”
EC25EFAR06A17M4G_20.200.20.200
“Have you ever flashed with the wrong firmware?”
No, but I remember I tried a downgrade from a newer to an older FW version.
Let me say from EC25EFAR06A17M4G_20.200.20.200 to EC25EFAR08A01M4G_01.001.01.001
Have a nice day.

I couldn’t find the orignal firmware for the IMEI.
Normally it is not allowed to flash the EC25EFAR06A17M4G_20.200.20.200 and EC25EFAR08A01M4G_01.001.01.001 in any direction.
EC25EFAR06A17M4G_20.200.20.200 can only upgrade to version like EC25EFAR06AxxM4G_20.2xx.20.2xx.
It is an old module, at least 5 years old.
I remember that after the flashing of the EC25EFAR06A17M4G_20.200.20.200 version the modem seemed to work properly. I think the downgrade killed it. Poor old modem…rip.
For the future maybe QFlash tool should verify the hw version and avoid forbidden upgrades. Is it possible to ask quectel sw development team to add this feature to QFlash?
Thanks again, Biao

Please read the ReleaseNote in the firmware carefully.
R06 firmware cannot upgrade to R08, it might not mentioned in the firmware release note. But if request the firmware that someone should tell you.
Right now can the module flash with EC25EFAR06A17M4G_20.200.20.200?
For sure someone told us when we got the update. The problem is that time passed and in an emergency situation it is easy to do errors. It is my fault, no doubt. Now I know that a wrong update bring to unrecoverable damages to the device.
As said, I think that the upgrade tool, QFlash, should avoid such dangerous actions. I mean, QFlash accesses device ports and may ask to the device itself what is the model name and what is the installed fw release. Knowing Hw model and installed FW version, the QFlash can check if a new requested upgrade is valid for that HW and FW versions. This can reduce time loss for customers and support.
Yes, the procedure (in sahara only mode) ends with “PASS”. The problem is that the device never exits from emergency mode.

QFlash does not have fool-proofing for everything. Quectel QFlash supports all the Quectel Modules, including 2G/3G/4G/5G/WIFI/BT/GNSS/Smart…
Did you use an oscilloscope to check the USB_BOOT?
Can you also post the debug log of EC25? Indeed, flash is probably corrupted.
I know,I know…mine was only a suggestion.
The diag port is off so QWinlog does not see any usb modem port available to get the log.
