EC21 mini PCIe fails to acquire GPS

I am trying to get GPS data from an EC21 mini PCIe modem.

I have turned on GPS

AT+QGPS=1

and can see NMEA data.

$GPGSA,A,1,1E
$GPGGA,0,66
$GPRMC,V,N
53
$GPVTG,T,M,N,K,N
2C

However after 30 minutes there is still no lock.

I am using a GPS antenna that came with a UC20-EVB kit, and this works fine when connected to a UC20 mini PCIe modem.

Does the EC21 require a SIM card to give GPS ? The UC20 works fine without one.

any thoughts ?

Hi,
EC21-EC doesn’t support GNSS. If you want to use GNSS, it is recommended to test EC21-E.

Hi,

Thank you for that. It is what I thought.

Just a note, in the Quectel_EC21_Mini_PCIe_Hardware_design_V1.2.pdf on page 13, it states that GNSS is optional for the EC21-EC Mini PCIe. Perhaps on the next revision of the document you could change it to say not included ?

In fact , that datasheet says GNSS is optional for all mini PCIe types.
It is just a bit confusing and at least in the case of the EC21-EC contradicts the website.

many thanks
Ben

Hi,
The document is not clearly described about this part. We will update the document and delete GNSS later.
Thanks!
