BG96: Differences between the operators that can be obtained with AT+COPS? and AT+QNWINFO

When I set the operator with AT+COPS=1 (manual operator selection), CME ERROR: 30 is returned.

The NETLIGHT LED is off longer than it is on, so it is not connected to a carrier (network searching).

When I send AT+COPS?, I cannot get the operator.

However, when I send AT+QNWINFO, the specified operator with AT+COPS=1 is returned.

Question:
Are there differences between the operators that can be obtained with AT+COPS? and AT+QNWINFO?

I have checked the operation of each, and it seems to work as follows.

  • With AT+COPS?, you can get the operator only if BG96 is connected.
  • With AT+QNWINFO, you can get the operator that is trying to connect, regardless of whether BG96 is connected or not.

from AT_Commands_Manual

AT+QNWINFO
The command indicates network information such as the access technology selected, the operator, and the band selected.

Since it says “such as”, it’s not clear whether it will respond with the currently selected content.

Hi @kakizaki

Possible reasons are

The module is in the process of network registration.

The module does not have a suitable cell to camp on and cannot initiate an attach request
