Updating external eSIM profiles with EG915U

This post was made in conjuction with the Arqia team.

Hello,

We are trying to download a virtual profile on an SGP.02 eUICC card, mounted on a device with the EG915U module.
This eSIM already has a bootstrap from Arqia (Brazilian carrier), with data connectivity established and tested, and support for SMS (both MO and MT).
This eUICC card is correctly provisioned on Arqia platforms (SM-SR and SM-DP), and the download works fine when the card is on an iPhone or Android device (Such as Samsung Galaxy S23). Our platform (SM-SR/SM-DP) is from VALID, and the eUICC card too.

When we try to download the profile on the device with the EG915U module, the process starts fine and we have the card online and connected to the Internet. The SMS is sent to the module but the error “sm-DeliveryFailure (32) / sm-EnumeratedDeliveryFailureCause: equipmentProtocolError (1)” happens. We got this message from the Radio Access Network Logs. It seems that the module does not know what to do with this Binary SMS (MSG sent from the platform to the eUICC card) that should start a data session, connect to the SM-SR/SM-DP, and download the profile.

A timeout occurs after the 5 minutes period (configured on the servers).

We have tried some solutions based on the Quectel support we’ve received, such as enabling the STK via AT commands, but it didn’t work. We have also checked the “EC200U&EG91xU Series eSIM Application Note”, but from what we understood, that’s meant for the SGP.22 SIM that comes from module (we still tried to use the commands described on the document, but no success).

hi ,
This issue is likely due to restrictions on downloading eSIM configuration files. Please update the firmware and try again.
