Dear gentlemen,
I got a new Thinkpad X1 Gen 12 one month ago. After checking with Lenovo the correct part numbers, I purchased WWAN Card model Quectel 5W11H85458 (RM520N-GL).
installed the card my self. Followed the installation guide to the letter. However, it never showed in my device manager. Contacted Lenovo support, followed all the diagnosis instructions & installations & driver & bios updates, but still it didn’t never showed up no worked. Anybody has an idea what else I should do to try to sort out the problem. Attached a picture of the card & the wiring. Thanks in advance.
Please check if there is unrecongnized devices. If yes, you need install module driver. If not, maybe it is a hardware issue. Please contact your vendor to check hardware firstly.
Thank you for your reply. Under other devices as per screen shot, i see the following unrecognized devices. however, I’m not sure if this relevant to the problem or not. On the other hand, under System Devices, I see “Quectel PCI Express”. I don’t know if this is also relevant to the problem or not.
I contacted the vendor of the WWAN card which I purchased from ebay. He is not responsive. I contacted Lenovo, they are reluctant to support because I didn’t buy the WWAN card from them.
Any advice is truly appreciated. Thank you
Hi,
Could you please show the snapshot for unrecognized devices? Per above screen shot, it shows “Quectel PCI Express” that means device is recognized.
Usually, If hardware works fine, you will find some new devices appers whether the driver is installed correctly or not.
It is better to have a cross-test to make sure module and your PC are good.
What is the SMS/MMS device? Is it modem?
I don’t know. I thought it was related. I tried to change the driver to Network adapters but instantly it gave me blue screen & force restarted the device.
Maybe Lenovo has some customized settings. It is better to confirm with them.
Thank you for support. Lenovo is not helping because the WWAN card was not purchased through them. Can you please send me the latest firmware. I would like to try and install it. Thank you.
It is a lenovo customized modem. You can download driver from lenovo official website. The driver includes the latest firmware.
I already downloaded from the Lenovo site. please see attached. but as i highlighted it’s not working. Is there any harm if I try to install the default firmware from you? If it works, it would be great. If it didn’t work, then I’m back to square to one. please advise. thank you
Hello @rodeny, If you are able to send me the driver, i would be grateful. If it’s not possible, i wanted to tell you that I found this website claiming to have the latest Firmware.
Can you please help me confirm that this is true or not? Thnlank you. Regards, Adham
Hi,
I think it is. But this firmware is customized by Lenovo. I am not sure if it is the latest Firmware.
In addition, we need pay attention to such a fact you mentioned. This module is installed to other PC. It can be detected. But it cannot be detected on your X1. Generally, the device should be detected even there is no any driver is installed. So I’d recommend you to check with Lenovo why X1 cannot detect it.
Hi @rodney.wang , I made an account with this company Techship. Still waiting their approval in order that i can login and try to download the driver.
I found this link instead on Github. GitHub - 4IceG/RM520N-GL: Quectel RM520N-GL is 5G IoT module specially optimized for IoT/eMBB applications.
is this safe to download?
Instead of searching for the correct driver from other websites, can you please send it to me?
Thank you.
Hi,
I shared the public firmware to you by mail. Please check.
Please note, it is public firmware so it may be not working on Lenovo PC. It is better to use Lenovo specific driver to update.
Thanks @rodney.wang , well recieved the email.
Can I ask you to share the latest default windows driver also?
Appreciate your support. Thank you.
Hi, could you tell me if you managed to get this card working? I have the same modem and the same problem. It’s not showing up anywhere. I tried Linux in OpenWRT and the problem is still there. OpenWRT shows it as a USB modem but there’s a problem with the card.
Dear @arni
Please confirm whether the hardware of SIM card is fine.
Dear @arni
It is inserted in Lenovo PC and firmware is customized, please contact with Lenovo.
