Hi - I’m using a MikroTik ATL5G R16 router which has the RG520F-EU(EA) module. I’m using Vodafone UK as the cellular service, and I have 5G Ultra (SA) enabled on my account.
The RG520F-EU was connecting to 5G SA with no issues until 3-4 weeks ago, now it will not connect and I get a constant ‘LIMSRV’ message in the router log. If I put the SIM card into another router or phone it connects to 5G SA without an issue.
I’ve checked with MikroTik support and the issue isn’t with them, is there a reason the module would stop connecting to 5G SA?
The firmware version of the module is ‘RG520FEUEAR03A06M4GX_01.300.01.300’ which I believe is a MikroTik custom firmware. Has there been any updates that could be casuing the issue?
LIMSRV usually indicates that the UE has been rejected by the radio network. This event is usually related to the SIM card or APN. I suggest you replace a new SIM card for the abnormal UE and try again.
I’ve tried with a physical SIM & eSIM, it does the same with both.
The same SIM card connects to 5G SA without any issues in a Zyxel FWA710 5G router (which uses an X-Square module).
I’ve also tried disabling the ‘VoLTE Vodafone’ MBN file on the RG520F-EU and just using the network supplied APN (wap.vodafone.co.uk) but it still won’t connect.
The problem seems to be related to the RG520F-EU from what I can tell, are they any settings (AT Commands) I can try to get it to connect?
I’ve tried a different router, using the MediaTek chipset T830 (not sure what the module manufacturer is) and it connects to 5G SA without any issues using the above APN.
The RG520F-EU just stopped connecting at the start of February (the firmware wasn’t changed) and hasn’t connected again since. I’ve checked with Vodafone UK and they are saying everything is fine with my contract (I have 5G SA access) and there has been no changes to their network.
They could have blocked your Quectel module’s IMEI or they only approve certain devices on their 5G SA network. I would try to temporarily spoof the quectel IMEI with a working unit IMEI but don’t run them at the same time.
Have tried spoofing the IMEI to a known working device but it makes no difference.
Vodafone’s 5G SA is limited to compatible devices but this is more to do with phones that can support SA and manufacturers needing to update carrier profiles for SA.
I’ve been using Vodafone 5G SA for over a year with the RG520F-EU module without any issues.
Hi @silvia - no I didn’t, it just stopped connecting.
I’ve tested with other modules (MediaTek chipsets) and they connect without any issues. It’s a bit strange why the RG520F-EU has stopped being able to connect to 5G SA.
