RG255C-GL (5G RedCap) - Registration and configuration persistence on private 5G SA network

Hello,

I am a university student working on my thesis related to 5G RedCap. I am using a Quectel RG255C-GL module mounted on an M.2-EVB, attempting to establish connectivity and perform ICMP ping tests on a private 5G SA test network station deployed on my university campus.

The network uses a test SIM provided by the network vendor.

Current situation

  • I managed to register and attach successfully once
  • After reboot or power cycling, the configuration was not preserved
  • Currently, the module does not consistently register or attach
  • I suspect missing or volatile configuration related to SA / RedCap operation

Questions

  1. Is there a recommended step-by-step AT command sequence to configure the RG255C-GL for:
  • 5G SA + RedCap
  • Network registration
  • Data connection and ping
  1. Which AT commands or parameters must be saved to persist after reboot?
  2. How can I verify firmware version and RedCap support?
  • Is a specific firmware version required?
  1. Are there special considerations for private 5G SA networks (PLMN, NSSAI, etc.)?
  2. Which debug AT commands are recommended to analyze registration failures?
  3. UDP data transmission
  • I would also like to send UDP packets through the module for testing purposes.
  • Are there recommended AT commands or example sequences to:
    • Open a UDP socket
    • Send and receive UDP packets
    • Ensure proper operation over a 5G RedCap PDU session

Setup summary

  • Module: RG255C-GL
  • EVB: M.2-EVB
  • Network: Private 5G SA test network
  • SIM: Test SIM
  • Use case: RedCap connectivity and ping

I have read all the datasheets that are available, but about RedCap are a little bit confusing. For this reason i making this post.

Any official guidance, AT command examples, or application notes would be extremely helpful for my thesis work.

Thank you very much in advance for your support.

Best regards,
Andrei
