BG96 CME Not Working At all

I have a BG96 (BG96MAR02A07M1G_01.017.01.017)
I tried to get verbose error by initiating:
AT+CMEE=2
→ AT+CMEE=1
→ OK

didn’t work still get simply “ERROR” .
I even tried the numeric error:
A+CMEE=1
→ AT+CMEE=1
→ OK

Nothing..still getting just simply “error”

I did confirm it takes the update:
→ AT+CMEE?
→ +CMEE: 1
→ OK

so what gives?
Is there some sort of a configuration that needs to be set to enable CME output?

AT+CMEE=2 to enable result code and use verbose values. there is no speficial sort.
You can try with following steps to test:

remove SIM
AT+CMEE=2
AT+CPIN?
To check if get a verbose value.
