BG95-M3 Firmware Support, Network Requirements & Power Consumption for PSM/eDRX

Hello Community,

I am working with the Quectel BG95-M3 module and need detailed information regarding PSM (Power Saving Mode) and eDRX (Extended Discontinuous Reception) support, network requirements, and power consumption. I have the following queries:

1. Firmware Support:

  • Which firmware versions of BG95-M3 support PSM and eDRX modes?
  • Are there any recommended firmware updates to improve PSM/eDRX functionality?

2. Entering PSM/eDRX Mode:

  • What are the exact steps to enter PSM or eDRX mode?
  • What conditions must be met for the module to successfully enter these modes?

3. Network Dependencies & Configuration:

  • Are there any network-specific dependencies for enabling PSM or eDRX?
  • Do I need to perform any specific network-related configurations (e.g., APN settings, operator support) to ensure PSM or eDRX works correctly?
  • Does the network operator need to support PSM/eDRX for these modes to function?

4. Power & Current Consumption:

  • What is the current consumption of BG95-M3 in PSM and eDRX modes?
  • How much current is consumed during wake-up from PSM or eDRX?
  • What is the power consumption when the module is in an active state?

5. Power & Data Consumption in Different Scenarios:

  • How much power and internet data does the module consume when activating a PDP context?
  • What is the power and data consumption when establishing an SSL connection?
  • Are there any ways to optimize power and data usage during these operations?

I would appreciate any insights, recommendations, or Quectel documentation related to these queries.

Thank you!

Hi @busadhruv
I have send you these two documents about PSM and eDRX and I think you can find some useful information.

Hi Mikey,
Could you please send same document. I am interested in edrx on BG95-m2 modem. Could you please also share the edrx power consumption for different combination of edrx cycle, PTW and DRX cycle values.

Thank you.
